macOS · Menu bar · Homebrew install
Step-by-step installation via Terminal
Press ⌘ + Space to open Spotlight, type Terminal and press Enter.
Paste this command and press Enter. Homebrew will download and install the app — you may be prompted for your Mac password.
brew install --cask duplicate-finder
When the command finishes, open duplicate-finder from Applications or Spotlight (⌘ + Space). Click the menu bar icon, pick a folder to scan, review grouped files, then Move to Trash for copies you don’t need.
duplicate-finder is a menu bar app that scans any folder, finds exact duplicates by content (not just filename), and lets you delete them safely — with a clear preview before anything is removed.
All scanning happens on your device. No files, filenames, or metadata leave your Mac.
Finds true duplicates even when names differ.
Duplicates are grouped so you always keep one copy.
See how much disk space you’ll free before you confirm.
Remove copies via Move to Trash — never instant permanent delete.
